I have an HP Omen 16t-wf100 that came with Windows 11 preinstalled. It worked normally for about a year and a half, but Windows now periodically reports that it is no longer activated. Running the Activation troubleshooter restores it and says that Windows is activated with a digital license linked to my Microsoft account, but the problem returns later. It seems to happen more often when the laptop stays powered on and idle for a long time. I haven't changed the hardware, although a BIOS update may have occurred. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it permanently?

A BIOS update or another firmware change can sometimes make Windows detect the laptop as different hardware and temporarily lose track of its digital license. Check HP’s support page for your exact Omen model and install the latest BIOS, chipset, and system updates using HP’s instructions. If the issue continues, check whether the BIOS is correctly detecting the original hardware and whether the system clock is accurate.
Your laptop may have an original Windows product key embedded in its firmware. Open Command Prompt as administrator and run `wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3OriginalProductKey`. If a key is displayed, save it somewhere safe and enter it under Settings > System > Activation > Change product key. This can help if Windows is failing to reconnect to the digital license, though it’s still worth updating the BIOS and drivers first.
Avoid activation scripts or unofficial tools. Since the troubleshooter successfully reactivates Windows, the license is probably valid; the more likely issue is a BIOS, firmware, licensing-service, or hardware-identification problem. Make sure Windows is fully updated, install the current HP firmware and drivers, and note the exact activation error code the next time it happens. That code will help determine whether the problem is with the license, the Microsoft account, or the system configuration.

I didn’t intentionally change any hardware, but a BIOS update may have happened around the time this started.
