I currently have 12 case and radiator fans: three on top, three on the right, two on the bottom, one on the left, and three attached to a radiator. The system is noticeably loud even after adjusting the fan curves. Is this excessive for a typical gaming PC? If so, how many fans would normally be enough, and how should I arrange or control them for good temperatures without unnecessary noise?

Twelve fans is more than most systems need, but the number itself is not automatically a problem. With more fans, you can sometimes move the same amount of air at lower speeds, which may reduce noise. Try using proper fan-control software or BIOS curves and let most fans run slowly—or turn off at idle—if your hardware supports it.
A common starting point is two or three filtered intake fans and one rear exhaust, with radiator fans positioned according to whether the radiator is being used as an intake or exhaust. Aim for slightly positive pressure so air enters through the filters instead of unfiltered gaps. You can test this by temporarily unplugging fans and comparing temperatures under load.

I set the curves in the BIOS, but the fan-control software says some of the fans don't have a speed sensor. I'll see whether I can connect or control them differently.
