Can I Still Create a Basic SKU Public IP for Testing Migrations?

Hey everyone! I'm in the process of testing a migration from a Standard SKU IP address to a Basic SKU one, particularly for an ExpressRoute Virtual Network Gateway setup. Is there still a way to create a Basic SKU public IP address for this purpose? I've been looking into the limitations mentioned in the Azure documentation, but I'm not sure if there's a workaround since the GatewaySubnet is quite limited at /28. Any insights would be appreciated! Thanks!

Yes, there is a way! If you use the Azure portal wizard to create your VNG and select a non-Az SKU while opting to create a new public IP, you should be able to get a Basic SKU public IP. I discovered this while updating some training materials just a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks! I tried this, but I was only given the option for a Standard SKU public IP. Do you think it could be region-specific? Which region did you test in?

Unfortunately, I don't think you can create new Basic SKU public IP addresses anymore. Microsoft ended that option back in March, and I haven't seen any follow-ups about extending it. You might want to contact support, but it looks like you might be out of luck with that one. Good luck with the migration, though!
