Is It Worth It to Switch to Linux Without Losing My Files?

I've been really curious about switching to Linux after coming across a bunch of videos highlighting its customization options and lightweight nature compared to Windows. However, I'm feeling anxious about losing all my important files, especially since I've used Windows my entire life and have a ton of memories saved on it. I've seen some discussions about transferring files between computers, but I really want to keep my current one intact. Does anyone have tips on how I can make the transition to Linux without risking my files? Any advice would be super appreciated! Thanks!

Before switching, definitely get a backup drive. If you want to test Linux without committing your current OS, try tools like Ventoy. It helps you run live versions of Linux without affecting your Windows setup. And remember, back up your files first!

You should definitely be backing up all your files anyway! Relying on a single copy is risky. After you’ve backed up, go ahead and install Linux. You’ll be fine. Seriously, just take the leap!

If you don’t have a backup yet, you’re at risk of losing those files eventually anyway. Start backing up now, and once you've got that sorted, switching to Linux will feel a whole lot less stressful!

Backing up everything to an external hard drive is a solid move, regardless of whether you switch to Linux or stick with Windows. Drives can get corrupted, and losing your files would be a big bummer. I actually recommend using both an external drive and a cloud storage service for redundancy.

Honestly, if you're worried about backing up files, Linux might present some hurdles for you. But that doesn’t mean you can’t jump in! Just make sure to duplicate your must-have files to a cloud service or onto an external drive first. Better safe than sorry, right?
