I'm trying to set up a Linux system with a long-term, low-maintenance mindset, and I'm looking for advice on how to deal with Wayland without using KDE or Gnome. I've had issues with KDE where I keep messing up my specific layouts due to accidental clicks, and Gnome feels overly complicated and restrictive for my preferences. I'm primarily interested in DEs like Cinnamon and LXDE, but I'm aware that Cinnamon is only planning for Wayland support into 2028, and LXDE seems to be outdated. I've read that XFCE is somewhat in the works for Wayland, but it's not fully there yet. Are there any other Wayland-compatible desktop environments that might fit my needs, or am I stuck choosing between the two mentioned? I'm also leaning towards Debian for its package management and reliability. Any suggestions on how to approach this setup would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to check out the new Cosmic Desktop from the Pop!_OS developers. It's not in beta yet, but could have potential. Also, don't overlook that LXDE has been succeeded by LXQt, which might be worth a look since they have experimental Wayland support! Just be aware that it might not be as polished yet.
Not being in beta is a concern for a "set and forget" setup, but I'll keep an eye on it! And I remember LXQt feeling a bit rough around the edges back in its earlier days.
