What can I do about my ISP throttling my WiFi?

I've been experiencing really slow WiFi at home, particularly on my phone, where it feels like it's crawling. Even Reddit images won't load! Strangely, every time I have this issue, if I quickly run an internet speed test, my phone suddenly speeds up again. This makes me think my ISP is throttling my connection until they see the speed test. I even tried using Wireshark to analyze the situation, but I'm not sure what to look for. Any advice on what I can do?

Since you've already tried troubleshooting a lot, maybe consider changing your network name and making it a hidden network to prevent unauthorized access. Good luck!

A firmware update on your router could resolve issues too. Just make sure your router settings are secure as someone could be interfering with your network.

It sounds like the issue is likely on your end since your ISP can only throttle the bandwidth coming into your home. Try restarting your modem and router if you haven't already, or consider upgrading your equipment if the problem persists.

You might have some WiFi interference going on. Check for overlapping channels with your neighbors using a WiFi spectrum analysis app. Also, keep in mind that microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with your signal.

If your wired connection is fine, it’s probably not the ISP causing the problem. You could buy a better WiFi emitter to improve your signal. Also, reach out to your ISP; they might be able to provide a newer router for free.
