Hey everyone! I'm putting together a budget PC using some second-hand parts I found. I picked up a Cooler Master PSU from an old HP Omen PC for just $20 and got a GTX 1060 6gb MSI Gaming X for $45. The issue I'm facing is that my GPU requires one 8-pin connector, but my PSU only has two 6-pins and two 2-pins available.
Is it safe to combine the 6-pin and 2-pin connectors to make the 8-pin? I'm a bit worried about potential hazards. Also, I've seen some 6 to 8-pin adapters on Amazon; do you think those would be safe to use? Thanks for any help, and sorry if this sounds like a dumb question!

Congrats on your build! Just to clarify, the 6-pin and 2-pin connectors are made to work together for this exact situation. Many GPUs have supported 6-pin connectors since the past, so it’s fine to combine them to get the 8-pin you need!
Absolutely! 6 + 2 = 8. It’s as simple as that. The design of the connectors allows you to mix and match them to power your GPU safely.
Yeah, you can totally use the 6-pin and 2-pin together to make an 8-pin connection. That's what they're designed for! It's perfectly safe as long as you're not exceeding the PSU's wattage limits. Go for it!
Right on! 6+2 equals 8. Math is just great, huh? But really, as long as you're using the proper connectors and not trying to force something odd, you should be just fine!
It can be a bit wonky if you try to connect things wrong, but if you stick to 6+2 for 8, you’re in good shape.
