Thoughts on Upgrading to a Radeon 9070 XT for My Gaming Setup?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming setup, which I originally built during the pandemic. Both my kids have started gaming, and I'm hoping to set up two PCs for us that are somewhat equal in performance. I'm aiming for 1440p gaming and considering switching to OLED monitors, though I'm open to IPS if that's better for our budget.

I'm based in Belgium and my total budget is €3500. So far, I've picked out two Gigabyte WQHD 34" curved monitors for around €1220. This leaves me with about €2280 for the PCs.

I'm contemplating two upgrade paths: one involves a motherboard replacement with a budget of around €1080, while the other includes just upgrading the GPU and adding some RAM for about €751. My current hardware isn't worth putting too much money into since it's not performing optimally.

I'm especially interested in whether the Ryzen 5 7600 paired with a Radeon RX 9070 XT will be a good match or if I should consider a more powerful CPU like the 7800X3D instead. I've done some calculations on performance and it seems the current CPU might throttle the GPU a bit, but I'd like your opinions before I lock in the order!

Here's the part list I've gotten so far:
- Ryzen 5 7600
- Radeon RX 9070 XT
- 64GB RAM
- 1200W power supply (overkill, I know but I wanted some headroom).

Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks!

Honestly, you only need 32GB of RAM if you're just gaming. A higher speed like 6000MHz could also give you better performance. As for the PSU, anything around 700W is usually more than enough for your setup. Also, have you thought about upgrading your old systems instead of replacing everything? You might find a Ryzen 5700X3D for a decent price, and that would pair nicely with your 9070 XT at 1440p.

Yeah, you could get decent performance from your old builds with just a few upgrades. Definitely worth exploring before going full new build!

Your setup is looking pretty solid! However, with dual 1440p monitors, a Ryzen 7600 might not be enough for such a powerful GPU like the 9070 XT. I'd recommend considering a Ryzen 7800X3D to ensure better compatibility and overall performance. That said, if you're mostly using one monitor at a time, scaling back to just one might also work well while saving on some costs!

I agree, a 7800X3D would be a more balanced choice. The 7600 could end up holding your performance back.
