How do I remove the AAFP wire from my motherboard for thermal paste replacement?

I'm in the process of replacing the thermal paste on my CPU, and I've got the motherboard out. However, I'm stuck trying to remove a wire labeled 'AAFP.' I can't find any safety releases for it, like the ones on the 24-pin connector. This is my first time doing thermal paste replacement, so I'm looking for any tips on how to take off this wire. I can't lift the motherboard until I get it removed, so any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

I agree with GamerGeek88! You really only need to take the cooler off for a thermal paste change. The AAFP wire is typically just for audio and isn’t necessary for the paste job. You can just leave that connected and get straight to cleaning the CPU and installing the cooler back. It's common to feel nervous about breaking the board, but as long as you're gentle, you should be fine!

Hey! You actually don’t need to remove the entire motherboard just to replace the thermal paste. Usually, you just take off the CPU cooler and then reapply the paste without lifting the motherboard. Just be careful when putting everything back together to ensure it’s snug but not overly tight, so you don’t risk damaging anything.
