Could My Sister’s School Chromebook Be Infected with Malware?

My sister uses her school-issued Chromebook not just for schoolwork but also to watch YouTube. Recently, my mom received an email from the school claiming they found a history of 56 inappropriate YouTube videos viewed on my sister's device in just 20 minutes, outside of school hours. The IP address in the email didn't match any of our devices, and at the time of the alleged views, my sister was with my mom and me, away from home. We checked her YouTube history, and those videos were indeed watched completely, which doesn't add up, considering the short time frame. Earlier in the year, my sister had shared her password with a classmate, but it seems unlikely that a 12-year-old would watch all those videos in that amount of time. I suspect malware might be the issue, and I'm trying to figure out how to prove it, how it could have gotten onto a supposedly secure device, and how to remove it. Should we create a new email and password and possibly get a new Chromebook? What are your thoughts?

It sounds like someone might be logged into your sister's YouTube account from another location and watching those videos. Have you confirmed if the IP address could be related to your home network?

We checked, and the IP definitely isn't ours, and it's actually four states away from us.
