How can I check if my Mac Studio is connected to the VPN correctly?

I'm currently working on a school project that involves using FileZilla and cPanel, and the first step is to download GlobalProtect, which is managed by Palo Alto. I'm using a Mac Studio and I'm not sure if the VPN is installed correctly. Should I check it through System Preferences under Security & Privacy? I've spent the last 48 hours trying to get FileZilla to work, and the university help desk mentioned verifying that the VPN service is running. I'm confused because there's a pop-up asking for an IP address or domain name. I'm not sure if they want my Mac Studio's domain name, my personal IP address, or the shared IP from cPanel. I've tried both, but no luck!

You can change your VPN settings directly on your Mac using this [link to Apple’s support page](https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/change-vpn-settings-on-mac-mchlp1579/mac). For a successful setup like what I did with NordVPN, just run the installer and then log in with your email and password; it usually configures automatically.

When you're in System Settings and looking to configure the VPN, check if 'IKEv2' or 'L2TP over IPSec' is the option you need based on what your school suggests. If GlobalProtect isn't opening, you might need to reinstall it from the link provided by your school. Sometimes software can mess up like that.

Thanks for the info! I'm currently off-campus, would that affect my access? Should I be using my personal IP or the shared IP to log in? This VPN service is being really glitchy for me.

You should see a globe icon in the top right corner of your screen, which indicates that the Palo Alto GlobalProtect client is running. To connect to your school's VPN, you'll need the hostname or IP address of their VPN gateway. This is what you put in the 'Portal' field along with your school credentials to log in. Don't forget to check with your school for the correct address!
