What’s the Best LLM for Choose Your Own Adventure Games?

Hey folks! I'm on the lookout for the best language model that can enhance my experience with text-based Choose Your Own Adventure (CYA) games. I need something that can keep track of what has happened so far, including plot developments, character relationships, and frequently used items. It's important that it maintains continuity as the game progresses, but I've noticed that the conversation quality seems to degrade over time. If there's a way to incorporate background prompts that can be saved and followed throughout the game, that would be awesome! Any advice on how to make the most out of this would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I’ve been using GPT-4 for my son’s CYA adventures, and it’s working out great! I kick off each new story with fresh project files that include all relevant details like character sheets and story summaries. This keeps things from getting laggy. At the end of each session, I make sure to have it generate an updated character sheet and any prompts to guide the next session. It’s helped a lot with keeping the game fun without having to micromanage everything!

That sounds like a fantastic setup! Keeping the AI within PG limits is challenging, but it seems to do a good job. Your approach to manage content and priming the AI to function as a DM is super helpful—thanks for sharing!
