What to Do When a Freelancer Uses Their Premium Plugin License on Your WordPress Site?

I recently hired a freelancer through Fiverr to help create a custom article template for my GeneratePress WordPress site that includes a tailored right-hand lesson menu. The freelancer used their own developer license for GenerateBlocks Pro to implement the template. While everything seems to be working fine now, I'm worried about future updates and support since I don't own the GenerateBlocks Pro license. I'm concerned that without access to updates, my site could face compatibility issues or, worse, security vulnerabilities down the line. So, I have a couple of questions for you all: 1. Is it typical for freelancers to develop sites using their own premium plugin licenses without transferring ownership? 2. Should I genuinely be worried about the long-term functionality and security of my site in this situation? Any tips on how to address this with the freelancer would also be appreciated!

It’s a bit concerning! Typically, freelancers should inform you if they’re using premium plugins, and depending on the agreement, you might not be fully covered for future updates. It’s not uncommon to encounter situations where freelancers use their licenses; however, proper communication beforehand is key. Considering your situation, it might be worth asking them to redo the work with plugins that you can own yourself or request a partial refund if this wasn’t clear at the start.

I totally understand your point. I hired the freelancer because I couldn't figure out the design myself, but I didn't anticipate needing to buy an ongoing license for something I thought was a one-time service.
