I'm looking for a lightweight Linux operating system for my Dell OptiPlex 3050, which has 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. I want something that's easy for my family to use for watching YouTube and DVDs online. It needs to be fast and simple to set up, and I'll be using a keyboard and mouse, so remote access isn't necessary. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

With 8GB of RAM, almost any distro will work fine, but Linux Mint is a solid choice for beginners and it should run smoothly on your device.

I’m currently using Ubuntu on my Dell OptiPlex 3050, and it works great. It’s straightforward to set up, and the interface is pretty intuitive for new users.

What about the graphics performance? Is it decent for streaming?

You could also look into some other options like Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 or even Fedora, which I've heard good things about, though I haven’t tried it myself yet.

For your setup, I’d recommend checking out Linux Mint, especially its XFCE Edition. It's user-friendly and lightweight. You might also want to consider Pop!_OS or Zorin OS, both of which have good reviews for easy setups and smooth performance.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been considering Pop!_OS and Zorin OS too.

I’ve read that Pop!_OS has some nice features; do you know if it’s easy to customize the interface?
