ASUS motherboards often cost more than comparable models from MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock. I'm aware ASUS has a poor reputation for warranty and after-sales support, but the other major manufacturers don't seem perfect either. If a motherboard is genuinely well-built and reliable, customer service may never matter—but does ASUS actually offer better components, durability, BIOS features, or long-term reliability that justify the extra cost? Or is it smarter to compare individual models and buy whichever has the best specifications and reviews?

At the same price level, the major brands are broadly comparable. More expensive boards usually have stronger power delivery, better heatsinks, thicker or more layered PCBs, additional M.2 slots, faster networking, and more expansion options—but those features aren’t exclusive to ASUS. A well-reviewed MSI Tomahawk, Gigabyte Aorus, or ASRock Steel Legend/Taichi can be just as good or better value than an ASUS equivalent.
ASUS has some excellent boards, especially in the TUF and ROG ranges, but the premium isn’t automatically buying better reliability. Their BIOS interface is generally considered one of their strengths, while software such as Armoury Crate is often criticized. The Prime range is more budget-oriented and shouldn’t be assumed to match a higher-tier board just because it carries the ASUS name.
Long-term ownership reports are useful, but no manufacturer is flawless. People have reported failures and difficult warranty experiences with ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and ASRock. Since support quality can vary by region, retailer, and case, it’s worth buying through a reputable seller with a straightforward return policy. Don’t pay a large premium solely for the hope that the board will never need support.
ASUS boards can absolutely be stable and dependable. Plenty of owners have run TUF, Strix, and Crosshair boards for years without crashes or hardware problems. That’s evidence that the products can be good, but it doesn’t prove the brand-wide premium is justified. Choose the exact board that provides the features you need at a sensible price, regardless of the logo.
The main rule is to compare specific models, not brands. Every manufacturer has budget, midrange, and flagship boards, and the quality can vary a lot between them. ASUS often charges extra for branding, bundled accessories, styling, and BIOS features, but an equivalent MSI, Gigabyte, or ASRock board may offer similar hardware for less. Look at VRM design and cooling, PCB layers, connectivity, BIOS support, networking, audio, and actual testing before deciding.

One thing to remember is that headline specifications don’t tell the whole story. A board with more power phases or higher-rated components isn’t necessarily cooler or better; layout and cooling design matter just as much.
