I've misplaced my Apple Pencil USB-C and my iPad keeps showing it as connected, which is the only sign that it might still be somewhere nearby. However, it disconnects again within about a minute. Could the connection indicator be delayed or incorrect, or might the Pencil still be within Bluetooth range even if I can't see it? I've already checked the obvious metal surfaces and tried a Bluetooth-finder app, but nothing clearly appeared as the Pencil.

A Bluetooth-scanner app may help you narrow down its location by showing signal strength, letting you move around and see whether the signal gets stronger or weaker. Keep in mind that the Pencil might appear without a recognizable name, or the app may not detect it consistently. If it connects and then disappears, that could explain why it isn’t showing clearly in the scan results.
It’s possible the Pencil is genuinely still connected, even if it isn’t attached to the iPad. The magnets can make it stick to nearby metal surfaces such as desk legs, furniture frames, or other objects. Bluetooth range can also extend farther than expected indoors. Since it disconnects quickly, it may be entering low-power mode or the connection status may be briefly lingering.
I checked the metal surfaces around the room and still couldn’t find it. I’m starting to wonder whether it came loose in my bag and rolled away somewhere rather than actually being nearby.
I tried a Bluetooth-finder app, and the Pencil briefly connected to the iPad while I was using it, but no obvious Pencil appeared in the device list. It could be listed anonymously, or the connection may simply be unreliable.
