I'm locked out of my Apple Account and started the automated recovery process through Apple's account-recovery site. The confirmation said I should receive instructions on September 22 at 9:31 AM PDT through my trusted phone number, which means waiting about seven days. The status page currently shows roughly five days remaining.
I understand the delay is meant to prevent unauthorized takeovers, but being unable to access purchases, subscriptions, and other Apple services for more than a week is difficult. Apple Support and Genius Bar staff apparently cannot manually shorten the recovery period, and repeatedly submitting requests or attempting sign-ins may reset or extend the timer.
Has anyone found a legitimate way to provide additional identity verification and reduce the wait? Or is waiting for the countdown to finish the only option? Also, can I use the recovery website directly once the waiting period ends, even if the text message or phone call has not arrived yet?

There are occasional stories that submitting recovery from a familiar device or usual home network affects the estimate, but that’s anecdotal and not a reliable method. Changing where you submit the request could also reset the process, so I wouldn’t gamble with the existing countdown unless the recovery page specifically gives you a new option.
The delay is an intentional security measure, and Apple’s published guidance says support cannot override it. Once the stated recovery period has ended, you can go directly to the account-recovery website and follow the instructions there; you do not necessarily have to wait for the text or call before checking.
Unfortunately, Apple Support cannot shorten the recovery timer. If there were an approved way to speed it up, the recovery page would normally tell you. Starting another request or repeatedly trying to sign in could make the wait longer, so it’s safest to leave the current request alone and wait it out.
That helps. I was mainly hoping there was some additional identity check I could complete instead of waiting, but it sounds like the countdown is effectively final.
