I'm running Windows 11 and have an 805 MB recovery partition located between the boot and data partitions. I'd like to remove and recreate it so the surrounding space can become one larger volume. Is there a safe way to do this without reinstalling Windows or moving all my data? I have current backups, but I'd prefer to avoid unnecessary transfers. What recovery features would I lose, and what should I do before changing the partition layout?

Removing it is generally possible, but the exact steps depend on where the partition sits and which volume can actually be expanded into the freed space. If you delete it, Windows’ built-in reset and troubleshooting options may no longer work from the drive. You would need installation or recovery media to reset or repair the system later.
You can usually delete the recovery partition and expand the adjacent volume, but make sure you know whether it contains a vendor-specific recovery image or just Windows Recovery Environment. If it is only WinRE, you can recreate or re-enable it afterward using Microsoft’s documented partition-resizing procedure. Back up first, suspend BitLocker if enabled, and verify that you have a bootable Windows USB in case recovery tools stop working.
Be cautious if the partition came from the computer manufacturer. It may contain customized drivers, utilities, or a factory-reset image rather than standard Windows recovery tools. Keeping an independent recovery USB and a verified backup is safer than relying entirely on that small partition, especially if the machine ever becomes corrupted or infected.
