A team renamed its built-in default Microsoft Teams channel, which was originally called "General," and users are now seeing synchronization problems with the team's files through OneDrive in File Explorer. Should IT rename the channel back to "General," or would the affected users need to reset and recreate their sync connections instead?

I wouldn’t assume changing the name back will repair the existing sync connections. Start by resetting or resyncing OneDrive on the affected clients. If that doesn’t work, users may need to remove the current connection and set it up again from scratch.
The channel can probably keep its new name, but each affected user may need to manually reconnect the files and recreate the synchronization relationship. We had to do this for a small team before, and everyone had to start their connection over.
It’s worth confirming whether the rename actually persisted. Some environments have reverted the default channel back to “General” automatically, which suggests that the channel has restrictions that don’t apply to ordinary channels.
The default channel is a special channel that exists in every team, so renaming it may not be handled consistently. Depending on the Teams and OneDrive behavior involved, the name could revert, the connection could break, or a second channel could appear. I’d treat client-side resyncing as the safer first fix rather than renaming it back.
