I left my iPad on an airplane, and the airline staff said they haven't found it yet. Find My still shows its location on the plane, so I enabled Lost Mode. It already has a passcode, but I'm worried that someone could access it if they find it—or bypass the security somehow. Is my data protected, and what should I do next?

Keep monitoring its location and contact the airline’s lost-property department again, since devices are sometimes found after the initial search. If the location changes, don’t try to recover it yourself—report the updated information to the airline or local authorities.
Lost Mode locks the device and can display a message with instructions for contacting you. Activation Lock also prevents the iPad from being set up with another account, even if someone tries to erase it. Keep it associated with your Apple Account and avoid sharing your password or verification codes. Changing your Apple Account password is a sensible extra precaution if you’re worried, especially if you reused it elsewhere.
As long as the iPad stays in Lost Mode and remains linked to your Apple Account, someone who finds it shouldn’t be able to unlock it or use it normally. Don’t remove it from your account or turn off Lost Mode. You can keep checking Find My while it still has power.

That’s a huge relief, thank you! I also added contact information to the Lost Mode message.
