File Explorer started crashing immediately when I try to open it, and the problem only appeared after I installed the KB5124008 update last night. I've already tried running DISM, clearing File Explorer history, and changing the default startup location to "This PC," but none of those helped. Is there a way to confirm whether the update is responsible, and should I uninstall it or wait for a fix?

Try uninstalling KB5124008 and restarting the computer. Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates, select that KB, and reboot. If the crashes stop afterward, the update is probably the cause. You can leave it removed temporarily and wait for Microsoft to release a corrected version.
Since DISM and the Explorer settings changes didn’t help, removing the recent update is a reasonable next step. Similar Explorer crashes have been reported after this update, so rolling it back may be more effective than repeatedly repairing system files. Pause updates afterward if Windows tries to reinstall it immediately.

I didn’t realize individual updates could be removed from that menu. I’ll try uninstalling the KB and restarting to see whether Explorer works normally again.
