I have three SSDs: a 512GB WD Black, a 1TB Crucial T705, and a 2TB Crucial T705. The 2TB T705 is the only one causing problems. When I download demanding games such as Black Myth: Wukong through Steam, the download eventually fails with a "DISK READ ERROR." After that happens, the SSD disappears completely from the computer until it is detected again later. Could the drive be defective, overheating, or having trouble with the motherboard's PCIe slot or connection?

Overheating is a strong possibility, especially for a high-end PCIe 5.0 SSD like the T705. Make sure it has the motherboard’s proper heatsink installed, that the thermal pad is making good contact, and that airflow around the slot is adequate. Monitor the temperature under sustained load rather than only when the system is idle.
Check the drive with CrystalDiskInfo or Hard Disk Sentinel. Look at its reported health, temperature, firmware details, and whether the drive is still showing normal read and write behavior. It’s useful to leave the monitoring window open during a large download so you can see whether the temperature or SMART status changes when the drive disappears.
Test the hardware separately. Put another known-good SSD in the same slot and, if possible, test the T705 in another compatible slot or system. Also reseat the drive and check for a loose heatsink or connection. If the other drive works normally in that slot while the 2TB T705 repeatedly vanishes, the SSD itself becomes the most likely failure point.
