A serial number starting with F does not mean the iPhone is refurbished. Apple serial numbers are not a reliable way to determine the device’s sales status. You may be mixing up the serial number and model number. The model number’s first character is the useful clue: M generally indicates a retail unit, F indicates an Apple refurbished unit, and N indicates a replacement device. You can also check the purchase date and warranty coverage through Apple’s coverage tools. The hardware problems should be handled separately through software troubleshooting or an Apple service center.
The packaging is worth raising with the retailer, but it does not prove the phone was refurbished. A warranty date that began just one day before delivery is also not unusual if the device was activated shortly before you received it. Since Apple Support could verify the device and found no clear refurbishment indicator, update iOS, reset the relevant settings, and have Apple run diagnostics if the problems continue.
