I'm putting together a new AM5 system and need at least 32GB of DDR5 memory. Ideally, I'd buy a 2x16GB kit rated around 6000 MT/s with CL30 timings, but prices where I live are approaching €400–500. That would eat up roughly 30% of my entire build budget. Are there sensible compromises on speed, timings, capacity, or buying used that could bring the cost down without causing major issues?

If this is mainly a gaming machine, 2x8GB might be a temporary option if 32GB is completely unaffordable. It’s enough for many games, provided you keep background applications under control, although 32GB is more comfortable and gives you better room for newer games and multitasking.
You could relax the specifications instead of insisting on 6000 MT/s CL30. A slower kit or looser timings should still work well, especially if the price difference is significant. For an AM5 build, 6000 MT/s is a nice target, but it isn’t mandatory for a usable gaming or general-purpose PC.
Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a clever workaround right now. Memory, SSDs, and graphics cards have all become much more expensive, and prices may not improve soon. If you need the system immediately, you may have to buy whatever reasonably priced kit is available rather than waiting for a perfect deal.
Used memory is worth checking, but don’t expect huge savings. Many sellers know current prices are high, so second-hand kits may only be slightly cheaper. Test the kit if possible and make sure it’s a matched pair with the specifications your motherboard supports.
That’s what I was afraid of. It’s hard to believe how much RAM costs compared with a couple of years ago.
