I connected a DVD player to my new monitor and the picture displays perfectly, but there's no audio. I assumed the monitor's built-in speakers would play the sound automatically. Do I need to connect the DVD player's audio output separately, or change a setting somewhere?

Check whether the connection you’re using carries audio. If it’s HDMI, the sound should travel with the picture, but the monitor still needs to support audio playback and have its volume turned up. If you’re using DVI, VGA, or another video-only connection, you’ll need to connect the DVD player’s red-and-white audio outputs to powered speakers, an audio system, or a suitable adapter.
I haven’t connected anything to the audio outputs yet because I expected the monitor’s built-in speakers to handle it. I’ll check the cable type and whether the monitor actually supports audio input.
