How far can a 2x16GB DDR5-4800 Corsair Vengeance kit be overclocked?

I'm planning to upgrade my memory capacity. My current system has two mismatched 8GB sticks—one Samsung and one SK hynix—running at 4800 MT/s, paired with a Ryzen 5 7500F and a B650 Eagle motherboard. I may upgrade to a Zen 6 processor when it becomes available. I found a 2x16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5-4800 kit for €320, which is a good deal where I live. Does this kind of kit have a realistic chance of reaching 6000 MT/s, or would the overclocking headroom probably be limited?

The memory ICs matter a lot. Samsung- and Micron-based DDR5 usually have less overclocking potential, while Hynix A-die or M-die kits are much more likely to reach 6000 MT/s or beyond. Without the exact Corsair part number, there’s no reliable way to identify the chips or predict the result.

You may be able to set 6000 MT/s, but that doesn’t mean it will be stable. The result depends heavily on the memory chips, the motherboard, and the CPU’s memory controller. With DDR5, stability testing is essential, and the real-world performance difference may be fairly small compared with the risk of crashes or troubleshooting.

So paying substantially more for a faster-rated kit may not be worthwhile for me, and manually overclocking this one could create stability problems. That makes sense.

6000 MT/s is not guaranteed, even with a kit advertised at that speed. Some Ryzen systems need a 6000 MT/s kit reduced to 5600 MT/s for stable operation. Since you’re considering a future CPU upgrade, running this kit at stock may be the sensible option; an X3D processor can also reduce the impact of slower memory because of its large cache.

Most DDR5 kits that are sold at 4800 MT/s don’t have a huge amount of guaranteed overclocking headroom. You might gain something with manual tuning, but if the sticks reliably reached much higher speeds, they would usually be sold as a faster-rated kit.
