How to Fix Monthly Azure Credits Linked to the Wrong Account?

I recently ran into an issue with my Azure monthly credit. Our company has enterprise licenses, which include a $150 monthly credit. I mistakenly claimed this credit expecting it to work on my personal account, but it got linked to my corporate account instead, which isn't one I can use for personal purposes. My coworker successfully activated the credit on his personal Microsoft account after I warned him to switch accounts before signing up.

I'm wondering if there's any way to move this benefit to my private account, or if I'm just out of luck and need to warn others in my company to avoid making the same mistake.

It's crucial to know whether the benefit is attached to an account or a subscription. In my case, I've been able to switch Azure dollars between tenants without hassle, but it requires Global Admin access in both accounts. If you're concerned about security implications or losing benefits during the transition, those are valid questions to discuss with Microsoft support.

I'm the billing owner of the subscription but not an admin of the directory. I'm worried that moving it could trigger security flags in the corporate tenant. Plus, I heard that billing ownership doesn't transfer with directory changes; could that mean I’d lose the benefits?

This happens a lot! The best fix, in my experience, is to ask your company's Visual Studio admin to unassign and then reassign your license. This resets your benefit status, allowing you to claim it on your personal account. Just be honest with your IT—they’ve likely seen this mistake before.

Do you think Microsoft might still have some input on this? I mentioned my situation in my ticket, but dealing with our IT can be a hassle.

You'll want to reach out to Microsoft directly about this. Unfortunately, there's not much anyone here can do to change it. Just explain your situation to them; they might have a standard process for transferring benefits from a corporate account to a personal one.

Thanks for the tip! I've already submitted a support ticket to see if they can reset my benefit so I can claim it on the right account.
