How well will a Ryzen 5 8600G run games with one 16GB RAM stick?

I'm considering a build with a Ryzen 5 8600G using its integrated Radeon 760M graphics and only one 16GB RAM module. I'd like a realistic idea of the gaming performance and expected FPS in games such as Dying Light, Geometry Dash, Fortnite, Valorant, Apex Legends, the Resident Evil games, and possibly Warzone. Would single-channel memory make a major difference, and which games would be reasonable to play without a dedicated graphics card?

It isn’t completely unusable, but calling it a gaming build would be optimistic with single-channel memory. Older or less demanding games can run acceptably at low settings, while newer games may need 720p, upscaling, low textures, and a capped frame rate. The best first upgrade would be adding a matching second RAM stick rather than relying on one module.

The exact FPS depends on resolution, settings, and the specific game, but don’t judge the 8600G using benchmarks that run with two sticks of fast DDR5. A 2x8GB or 2x16GB kit, preferably around DDR5-6000, gives the integrated graphics much more memory bandwidth. With one 16GB stick, performance can drop noticeably and some games may stutter.

The 8600G’s integrated graphics can handle lighter esports and older games reasonably well, but one RAM stick is a major limitation because the iGPU uses system memory. Expect playable results in games like Valorant, Fortnite, Geometry Dash, and older GTA-era titles with reduced settings, while newer AAA games will require substantial compromises. Dual-channel memory is strongly recommended.

For a similar budget, adding a used graphics card could provide a much better experience. Older cards such as an RX 580, GTX 1060, or GTX 1070 generally outperform the 760M and are more suitable for demanding games. If you’re staying with the iGPU, expect Dying Light 2 and Warzone to be difficult, while the original Dying Light and competitive games are more realistic targets.

That helps. I was mainly hoping to play the Dying Light games, Fortnite, Valorant, Apex, and some Resident Evil titles, so I may need to save for dual-channel RAM or a used GPU.
