I bought an HP FD0xxx laptop yesterday, and the battery seems to be draining extremely quickly. I've already charged it four times today because it drops from 100% to around 50% in roughly an hour, even when I'm only watching videos and browsing the web. Is this normal, or could the battery or laptop have a problem?

First check whether the laptop is running in a high-performance power mode. Switch it to the most efficient battery setting, then open Task Manager and look for apps or processes using a lot of CPU or memory in the background.
If the battery report confirms that it is no longer holding much charge, it should be replaced. Use a genuine HP battery that matches the part number printed on the original rather than a very cheap third-party replacement.
Check background applications and CPU activity first, but that level of drain points more toward a battery problem than ordinary video browsing. Since the laptop is new to you, check the return or warranty options before paying for a replacement.
A drop from 100% to 50% in an hour during light use sounds excessive. Generate a battery report by opening Command Prompt or Terminal and running `powercfg /batteryreport`. Compare the design capacity with the current full-charge capacity near the top of the report. If the current capacity is much lower, the battery may already be degraded.
