My iPhone 14 Pro Max suddenly shut down three days ago even though it had more than 50% battery. It only came back on after I connected it to a charger. Today it shut down again with plenty of charge, but this time it would not start while plugged in or connected to my Mac. I tried the standard force restart—volume up, volume down, then holding the side button—but the Apple logo only stayed on screen slightly longer before disappearing. I also cleaned the charging port, although the phone makes a faint whirring or pressure-release sound when connected to power. Has anyone experienced this, and is there anything else I should try before getting it repaired?

It eventually powered on after about two hours, so I am backing everything up now. I am still concerned that it may shut down again, especially since this has already happened twice.
If the phone manages to start again, back it up immediately to iCloud or a computer and avoid delaying the repair. Intermittent power failures can return without warning, and the unusual noise while charging is another reason to have the charging system checked. Stop using the charger if the phone becomes hot, smells unusual, or shows any swelling.
The repeated shutdowns, failure to respond to charging, and looping Apple logo sound more like a battery, charging, or other hardware problem than a normal software freeze. Try a different cable, power adapter, and outlet, then leave it charging for at least 30 minutes and repeat the force-restart sequence. If it still loops, Apple or an authorized repair provider should diagnose it rather than repeatedly forcing it on.

That is encouraging, but I would treat it as temporary rather than fixed. Finish the backup while it is working and arrange a diagnostic or warranty inspection as soon as possible.
