I currently have a Montech APX650 power supply, a Ryzen 7 5700, and an RTX 4070 Super. I'm considering upgrading the processor to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but I'm unsure whether the extra power draw will be too much for my 650W PSU. Should I keep using it, or would replacing the power supply be a safer choice?

An 850W supply would work, but it’s unnecessary for this combination. A good 650W or 750W PSU is already sufficient; only replace the current one if you want better build quality, warranty coverage, or additional upgrade headroom.
If you’re concerned about temperatures or power use, you can tune the 5800X3D with a mild undervolt. It isn’t required, though, and the standard settings should work with your current PSU as long as you aren’t experiencing crashes or shutdowns.
The wattage should be fine, but the APX650 isn’t generally considered a particularly high-end power supply. You don’t need to replace it immediately, though upgrading to a better-quality 650W–750W model could be worthwhile for improved reliability and headroom.
You probably don’t need to replace it just for the 5800X3D. The upgrade only adds roughly 30–40W in typical use, and the overall system should still be around 350W while gaming. A 650W unit is enough on paper, assuming the PSU is functioning properly.
That’s reassuring. I was worried the CPU upgrade would push the system much closer to the limit.
I’m not comfortable changing voltage settings after a bad experience with PC hardware, so I’ll probably leave it at stock settings.
