I'm deciding what to do with my current setup: a Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 9070 XT, 32 GB of RAM, and a 4K monitor. I mainly play World of Warcraft, which can be heavily dependent on CPU performance in busy areas, raids, and other demanding situations.
A Ryzen 7 5800X3D costs around €330–350 where I live. That seems expensive for an older AM4 platform, but moving to a newer X3D processor would also require buying an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 memory. I'm also wondering whether switching from 4K to 1440p would improve frame rates and smoothness, or whether the 5600X would simply become the limiting factor at the lower resolution.
Would you upgrade to an AM4 X3D chip, move to 1440p, replace the whole platform, or keep the current setup and wait? I'm especially interested in practical World of Warcraft performance rather than benchmark numbers.

The main argument against the 5800X3D is its price, not its performance. It is still a strong gaming processor, but AM4 is a finished platform, so there is no later CPU upgrade path. If you can save for an AM5 board, memory, and a newer X3D chip within a reasonable timeframe, waiting for the full platform upgrade may offer better long-term value.
For WoW, the 5800X3D is one of the more meaningful upgrades you can make without replacing the rest of the system. The extra cache and additional cores can improve busy-zone and raid performance, while letting you keep your DDR4 memory and motherboard. At €330–350 it is not a bargain, though, so I would check whether prices or local availability improve before buying.
If you are already noticing stutter or low frame rates with the 5600X, the 5800X3D should make the system feel considerably smoother, particularly in CPU-heavy games. Selling the 5600X can reduce the effective cost. I would check your actual GPU and CPU utilization in WoW first, since an upgrade is less urgent if your current performance already feels good.
There is no need to rush either decision. Keep the 4K monitor, try lowering the in-game render scale or settings, and monitor prices for both AM4 X3D chips and complete AM5 bundles. If the 5800X3D drops to a more reasonable price, it is a sensible final upgrade; otherwise, save for the newer platform rather than paying a premium for an older CPU.
A 1440p display would generally give the RX 9070 XT more room to deliver high frame rates, but I would not replace a good 4K monitor just to solve a CPU limitation. You can test 1440p or use resolution scaling first. In WoW, reducing resolution may not help much in CPU-limited situations, especially in cities, raids, and large events.
I’d keep the 4K monitor. You can always lower settings or render resolution when you want more performance, but buying a lower-resolution display is harder to undo.
That’s pretty much what I was thinking. Keeping the existing board and RAM makes the upgrade easier to justify.
