I'm considering buying a used Intel Core i5-13600K for €180 to improve performance in Rust. I'd prefer to keep my existing 32 GB of DDR4-3600 CL16 memory, so AM5 platforms are less appealing unless there's a significantly better deal. I'm located in Latvia, where pricing may differ. My current system has an i5-10400F, 32 GB of DDR4 memory, and a Radeon RX 6950 XT. Would the 13600K be a worthwhile upgrade, or is there another DDR4-compatible CPU with better value?

Rust can still have inconsistent performance even on powerful hardware, so a CPU upgrade won’t guarantee perfectly smooth gameplay. The 13600K should help with frame rates and minimums, but game settings, map location, background processes, and configuration tweaks can also make a difference.
At €180, the 13600K is probably one of the strongest DDR4-compatible upgrades you can buy. It should provide a noticeable improvement over the 10400F, especially in CPU-heavy games like Rust, while letting you reuse your memory. Just make sure your motherboard supports it and has an appropriate BIOS update available.
A Ryzen 5 5500X3D around €200 could also be worth comparing because the extra cache may help in some games while keeping DDR4. However, switching platforms may require an AM4 motherboard, and the 13600K is likely the better all-around processor if you already have a compatible Intel board.
The 5500X3D’s gaming advantage depends heavily on the game, so I wouldn’t choose it automatically. Compare the total cost of the CPU and motherboard against simply dropping the 13600K into the current system.
