Is a Used RX 6500 XT Still Worth Buying for Basic Work in 2026?

I'm considering a used RX 6500 XT for around $100 to use in an office PC. My needs are modest: occasional light CAD/CAM work and very light gaming. I know the card was criticized for its 4GB of VRAM and narrow 64-bit memory bus, so I'm wondering whether those limitations will be a serious problem by 2026. It does support relatively current drivers, but I'm unsure whether there are better options at this price.

For light 3D modeling, even fairly old integrated graphics can be usable, so the first thing I’d check is whether your processor’s integrated GPU is already sufficient. A dedicated card may not be necessary for this workload.

The card is adequate for the stated use, but I’d only consider it around $60–$70 unless used GPU prices are unusually high in your area. The 4GB VRAM is already restrictive in newer games, even at 1080p, and the narrow memory bus doesn’t help.

It will work for basic office tasks, light CAD, and older or undemanding games, but $100 used seems high. A GTX 1660, RTX 2060, or many RX 5000-series cards would offer substantially better performance if you can find one locally at a similar price.

The PCIe x4 connection is another major drawback. On a PCIe 3.0 or especially PCIe 2.0 system, performance can drop noticeably in some games. It may also receive less favorable driver support and game optimizations over time compared with newer generations, so I’d look for a better-value card if possible.
