I found a used RX 7800 XT listed for $380, which seems like a strong price. However, there's currently a new RX 9070 GRE available for $499, and it includes a warranty plus a promotional game. The newer card would cost about $120 more, so I'm unsure whether the extra performance and warranty justify spending closer to my maximum budget. Which option offers the better overall value?

The RX 9070 GRE’s newer features and FSR 4 support are worth considering, but I’d still choose the RX 7800 XT for this price. Its performance remains solid, and its drivers have had more time to mature.
For only $120 extra, I’d probably choose the new RX 9070 GRE. The warranty makes the price gap easier to justify, especially since the alternative is a used card with unknown history. The included game is a nice bonus too.
The RX 7800 XT is probably the better value. You’d be paying roughly 30% more for the newer card while gaining around 20% performance, so the used 7800 XT makes more sense if saving money is the priority.
I’d lean toward the new RX 9070 GRE. At $499 it’s a good deal, and it should be faster overall. If you don’t specifically need the RX 7800 XT’s 16GB of VRAM, the newer card is the stronger choice.
I’m not sure driver maturity is a strong reason to favor the older card. Newer GPUs need ongoing driver updates to support newly released and updated games. Older hardware can eventually lose performance improvements and compatibility support, so continued driver development for the newer card may be more valuable.
