Is an RTX 3060 Still Good for Gaming in 2026?

I'm considering buying a friend's older iBuyPower prebuilt PC for $800. It has received some upgrades, mainly to the RAM, but still uses the original NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB of VRAM. The listed specifications are an Intel Core i7-12700F, 32GB of RAM, roughly 1.5TB of total storage, and a 64-bit operating system. I mostly play single-player games and would like to use the highest settings possible, ideally at 1440p or even 4K around 60 FPS. Is the RTX 3060 still a decent card for that, and does the complete PC seem worth $800?

The RTX 3060 is still perfectly usable, especially for 1080p and 1440p gaming. You’ll probably need medium-to-high settings, upscaling, or reduced ray tracing in newer games. It isn’t really a reliable 4K/60 card, though, so that target would require compromises in most demanding titles.

For mostly single-player games, 1440p is a realistic target. Start with high settings and adjust demanding options such as shadows, volumetric effects, and ray tracing if performance drops. The 12GB of VRAM helps, but the RTX 3060 is still an entry-level-to-midrange card by current standards.

The GPU is only part of the value. The i7-12700F and 32GB of RAM are still solid, but the exact storage drives, power supply, case, motherboard, condition, and local used-market prices matter a lot. At $800, I’d compare it with newer used systems before buying; it may be reasonable, but it doesn’t sound like an obvious bargain.
