I currently have a Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 CL36 kit that came with a bundle, but I found a new DDR5-6400 CL32 kit of the same memory for $300. My ASUS B650E Max Gaming WiFi lists 6400 CL32 on its QVL, and the system uses a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a Radeon 9070 XT. Would the faster, lower-latency kit make a noticeable difference, and would it be worth buying it, selling my current memory, and covering the price difference? I'm also wondering whether running the 6400 kit at DDR5-6000 CL28 manually would provide a more meaningful improvement.

DDR5-6000 is generally considered the AM5 sweet spot. Going above 6000 can require extra tuning to maintain the best memory-controller and Infinity Fabric ratios, and 6400 may not be stable on every 7800X3D. Even if it works, the real-world improvement over 6000 CL36 should be minimal.
The performance difference will be tiny—probably around the margin of error in most games. The 7800X3D’s large cache makes memory speed less important, so DDR5-6000 is already an excellent match. I wouldn’t spend $300 unless your net cost after selling the current kit is very small.
If you can buy the new kit, keep it unopened, sell the old memory, and return the new kit if the final cost is too high. Personally, I’d only consider it if the upgrade costs roughly $50 or less after the sale. Otherwise, put the money toward cooling or another component where you’ll actually notice the difference.
Would tuning the 6400 kit down to 6000 CL28 make the upgrade more worthwhile?
