Is It Okay to Use AI to Build the Frontend of My App?

I'm building an app with Next.js, but my strengths and interests are mostly on the backend. I really dislike frontend work and don't have anyone else helping me, so I'm considering using AI to generate much of the UI and frontend code. I normally use AI for debugging, but I'm wondering whether relying on it for "vibe coding" the frontend is reasonable. How much should I understand and verify before using the generated code?

Using AI is fine, especially for components, styling, and repetitive UI work. Treat its output like a junior developer’s pull request: review it carefully, run the app, test edge cases, and fix the state-management or accessibility problems it introduces. It can save you time without replacing your judgment.

Use it as both a coding assistant and a learning tool. Ask it to create a component, explain each part, and suggest tests or alternatives. Don’t blindly accept the result—if you can’t validate what it generated, you’re not really in control of the code.

Yes, you can use AI for the frontend. The important part is that you remain responsible for everything you commit and deploy. Read the generated code, test it, and make sure you can explain and maintain the important parts. AI is a tool, not the person accountable for the result.

That’s why I wouldn’t hand over the entire process without a human reviewing it. AI can generate changes, but it still can’t take ownership of the consequences.

There’s no universal rule about when AI is allowed. For a personal project, experiment with it as much as you like. For client, production, or sensitive software, be more cautious about security, licensing, maintainability, and quality. Prompting features without reviewing the output often leads to tangled code, so have it refactor and explain its work regularly.
