I have an MSI MPG A850G PCIE5 power supply and want to connect its 12VHPWR output to my Radeon 9070 XT using a cable with two 6+2-pin PCIe connectors. The cable appears to come from a single PSU connection and does not look daisy-chained. Is this setup safe, or should I use separate PCIe cables or a different adapter?

It should be safe if that cable is the correct one supplied for, or specifically approved for, the MSI MPG A850G PCIE5. Use the PSU's native modular cable rather than a generic replacement, and make sure the connector is fully inserted at both ends.
Check the power supply manual and the cable labeling before connecting it. Cables that look similar are not universally interchangeable between modular PSUs. A properly rated 12VHPWR-to-dual-6+2 PCIe cable from the PSU manufacturer is intended to power a card this way, even when both GPU plugs originate from one PSU-side connector.
This is a 16-pin PSU-side cable that splits into two 6+2-pin GPU connectors, not a separate adapter. I’ll confirm it is the cable listed for this exact power supply.
