I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RX 7800 XT and am considering a CPU upgrade. My budget for the processor is around €200–€250. I was initially looking at the Ryzen 5 7600X or Ryzen 7 7700X, but moving to AM5 would also require a new motherboard and DDR5 memory. Would an AM5 upgrade be worthwhile, or should I look for an AM4 option instead?

If you can find a Ryzen 7 5700X3D or 5800X3D at a reasonable price, that would be the simplest upgrade. You could keep your motherboard and DDR4 memory, while getting a substantial gaming improvement over the 3600 with the 7800 XT. Make sure your BIOS supports the chip before buying. The regular 5700X and 5800X are valid upgrades, but they generally offer less gaming performance for the money, especially if the 5700X3D is only slightly more expensive.
Remember that AM5 is not just a CPU purchase—you’ll need a motherboard and DDR5 RAM as well. If your €200–€250 budget is for the entire platform, AM5 isn’t realistic. If it’s only for the CPU and you’re prepared to pay for the rest, the Ryzen 5 7600 is usually the better value than the 7600X because it performs nearly the same and is easier to cool. The Ryzen 7 7700X makes more sense for heavier productivity workloads or multitasking; for gaming alone, the 7600 is generally enough. Selling your old platform can offset the cost, but compare the total upgrade price before deciding.
That was my first choice too, but I can’t find a 5700X3D or 5800X3D locally, either new or used. The only models I can find are the regular 5700X and 5800X, and €200 for a 5700X doesn’t seem worthwhile.
