I'm considering moving from my Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB of DDR4, and MSI B550 Gaming Plus motherboard to an AM5 and DDR5 platform. Component prices have climbed significantly, so I'm unsure whether I should wait for them to drop. I mainly play demanding games such as Call of Duty and Cyberpunk, and my CPU is starting to reach its limits. Would an AM5 upgrade be worthwhile, or would upgrading the CPU within the current AM4 platform make more sense?

For the least expensive upgrade, staying on AM4 may be the better choice. A Ryzen 7 5800X3D would provide a substantial gaming improvement without replacing your motherboard and memory. A 5500X3D is another option, but the performance increase is generally less impressive. Used or discounted prices could make either one more appealing.
If your current system is still handling the games you play well, there’s no need to rush into AM5—especially with DDR5 and motherboard prices being high. First, check whether the CPU or GPU is actually limiting performance. Cyberpunk is often more GPU-bound, while Call of Duty can benefit more from a faster CPU.
If you have a nearby computer retailer offering bundle deals, an AM5 package with a gaming-focused Ryzen processor, motherboard, and DDR5 memory can make the platform switch more reasonable. A bundle is usually much better value than buying each component separately, but compare the total cost against an AM4 CPU upgrade first.
The CPU is reaching full usage in some games, which is why I started looking at upgrades. I’ll check whether the GPU is also being pushed before deciding.
