Is My Apple Watch Series 2 Beyond Repair After Dying in the Pool?

My Apple Watch Series 2 suddenly stopped working after I wore it during an aquafit class. The class lasted about an hour, and the watch was only a couple of feet underwater at most. It already had poor battery life after roughly 9.5 years of use, but this seemed unusually sudden.

When I first got home and placed it on the charger, the Apple logo appeared briefly and it looked like the watch might be charging. Since then, the screen has stayed completely black, and placing it on the charger no longer produces any response.

Could the water seals have deteriorated over time and allowed liquid inside? Is there anything practical I can try, such as leaving it to dry, or is the watch probably beyond recovery?

After nearly a decade, the water-resistant seals may have degraded even if the watch was never abused. The sudden shutdown after being in the pool, followed by no charging response, strongly suggests liquid damage. Water damage can sometimes appear delayed, and if it reached a major internal component, repair may not be economical.

It may be worth leaving it powered off in a dry, ventilated place for a while, but rice is unlikely to fix corrosion or liquid that has already reached the electronics. Since it briefly showed the Apple logo and then went completely dead, the chances of a reliable recovery are unfortunately low.

That is an impressive lifespan for a Series 2. Given its age, worn battery, and possible water intrusion, replacing it is probably more practical than paying for an internal repair. A newer model should also provide much better battery life and water resistance.
