I'm planning to keep my PS5 until GTA 6 releases, play it for a month or two, and then possibly sell the console to fund my first gaming PC. I've never owned a PC before and want to try gaming on one. Would a budget of $1,200–$1,500 be enough for a good build? I'm also open to buying used or getting help from friends who know about PCs, but I'm unsure whether I should build now or wait until I'm actually ready to buy.

I’d seriously consider a good used PC, especially if your budget has to cover peripherals too. You may find a system that performs around PS5 level or better for less money. Buying used also lets you try PC gaming without committing your entire budget immediately.
Before spending $1,200 or more, make sure you actually enjoy sitting at a desk and playing with a keyboard and mouse. Console gaming from the couch feels very different. You could try a used gaming PC under $500 first, or connect a PC to your TV with a controller, then upgrade later if you like the experience.
Don’t choose parts too far in advance. Hardware prices and product availability can change a lot over several months, so the best build today may not be the best value when you’re ready. Ask for current recommendations once GTA 6 is out and you actually plan to sell the console.
That budget can build a solid gaming PC, but how much it gets you will depend on prices and your location when you’re ready to buy. A $1,200–$1,500 system should handle 1080p very well and 1440p reasonably, but remember that you may also need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and possibly Windows.
I have friends who are experienced with PCs, and I’ve already seen some decent used systems locally. I’ll probably compare those options with new parts when I’m closer to buying.
