I've been working through K. N. King's C Programming: A Modern Approach, 2nd Edition for about two months, reading it in English and completing the exercises and programming projects. Each chapter contains a lot of material, and the problems take significant time and effort. I'm learning steadily, but I sometimes worry that I'm progressing too slowly when I see how much of the book remains. For people who have studied this book, how long did it take you to finish? Did you complete every exercise and project, or did you selectively skip some?

I completed all the exercises and programming projects, and it took me about five months. Your pace sounds very similar to mine. I skipped some of the short comprehension questions, but I wrote the code for every project because those longer problems were where pointers, memory, and the other difficult concepts really started to stick. If you’re learning effectively, the time spent is more important than the number of chapters completed.
That’s a perfectly reasonable pace. The book packs a lot more practice into each chapter than many formal courses do. A typical semester might cover roughly 12–14 chapters, often skipping or lightly covering some of the more advanced sections, so reaching Chapter 10 after two months while doing the exercises is solid progress. Don’t feel pressured to rush through it.
