Is the Radeon RX 9070 XT worth £100 more than the RX 9070?

I'm considering buying a Radeon RX 9070 XT, but the standard RX 9070 is about £100 cheaper. I've read that the XT is roughly 12% faster, though I'm not very familiar with PC hardware. I'd like to play modern games at 4K and 60 FPS when possible, or at least 1440p. Would the RX 9070 be sufficient, or is the XT's extra performance worthwhile enough to justify waiting and saving more?

Both cards offer similar performance per pound, but I’d lean toward the XT if 4K gaming is the main goal. Modern demanding games can be tough to run at native 4K and 60 FPS even on the XT, so the standard 9070 gives you a little less headroom. For 1440p, the non-XT is the better-value choice.

The best choice also depends on the games and display size. Some newer or especially demanding titles may need a quality upscaling mode even on the XT to stay above 60 FPS at 4K. At 1440p, either card should deliver an excellent experience, and the RX 9070 may let you use higher refresh rates without paying for performance you won’t notice.

I’m using an RX 9070 with a 1440p high-refresh display and it handles that resolution very well. Unless 4K is a firm requirement, I’d choose the cheaper card and put the savings toward a better monitor or storage.

For 1440p, the RX 9070 should be more than capable and the difference between the two cards may not matter much, especially if your monitor is around 144 Hz. At 4K, however, the extra performance from the XT is more valuable because even a 10–15% boost can make the difference between needing reduced settings or upscaling and maintaining a smoother experience.

Your Core i7-13700K is easily powerful enough for either GPU, so the processor shouldn’t limit your choice. If you mostly play at 1440p, save the £100 and get the RX 9070. If you specifically want 4K, plan to keep the card for several years, or want to rely less on FSR and lowered settings, waiting for the XT makes more sense.

That’s helpful. I mainly want 4K for demanding single-player games, so it sounds like the XT would give me more useful breathing room, while the regular 9070 would be plenty for 1440p.
