I'm building a budget gaming PC intended to handle newer and upcoming games at reasonable frame rates. I already bought a Ryzen 7 5700 and paired it with an RTX 3060 Ti, although I've seen criticism that the non-X Ryzen 7 5700 performs worse than expected because it has less cache than the 5700X and is closer to the Ryzen 5 5500 in some workloads. I originally considered the Ryzen 5 5600, but the 5700 is already purchased. Should this combination handle games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2 at the performance normally expected from an RTX 3060 Ti? Also, is around 30–40 FPS in GTA 6 a realistic hope, even though the PC requirements and benchmarks are not available yet?

The Ryzen 7 5700 is weaker than the 5700X in some games because it has 16 MB of L3 cache instead of 32 MB. That can affect frame-time consistency and 1% lows, especially in CPU-heavy games, but it doesn’t make the processor unusable. With a 3060 Ti, the GPU will often be the limiting part at 1080p high settings, particularly in newer titles.
The 3060 Ti is still a strong 1080p card, though its 8 GB of VRAM can become a limitation in newer games if textures and other settings are pushed too high. Lowering texture quality or using DLSS should help. For 1440p, you’ll need more compromises, but 1080p should be a comfortable target.
Nobody can reliably estimate GTA 6 performance yet. Console performance, optimization, and the eventual PC version could all be very different. A target around 30–40 FPS is reasonable as a hope, but don’t assume it will run at high or ultra settings until actual testing is available.
That’s still a perfectly usable budget combination. At 1080p, the RTX 3060 Ti should handle Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2 well with sensible settings, and DLSS can help in demanding scenes. You probably shouldn’t expect maximum settings with ray tracing, but playable performance should be fine. GTA 6 is impossible to predict until PC requirements and benchmarks are released, so I wouldn’t make a firm FPS promise yet.

That makes sense. I’m fine with lowering settings as long as the game stays above roughly 30 FPS, so I’ll stop worrying about replacing the CPU and just finish the build.
