Is the used RTX 4070 Ti Super worth £180 more than the RTX 5070?

I'm planning my first PC build and am choosing between two used graphics cards from CeX: an ASUS Prime RTX 5070 12GB OC Edition for £590 or a Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB Windforce Max OC for £770. Besides the extra 4GB of VRAM, does the 4070 Ti Super offer enough of a performance benefit to justify spending nearly £200 more? I'm pairing the GPU with a Ryzen 7 9700X and initially using 16GB of RAM, with an upgrade to 32GB later if needed.

For single-player games, the RTX 5070’s newer frame-generation features can make it a good choice, and the added latency usually matters less outside competitive gaming. Unless you’re playing at 4K or using demanding texture packs, the cheaper 5070 is the better value between these two.

The 4070 Ti Super is still a very capable card, especially for 1440p, and the 16GB VRAM gives it more breathing room for future games. However, £770 is a steep price for a used card. I’d only pick it if you specifically need the extra VRAM or find it closer to the RTX 5070’s price.

It’s also worth checking current prices for the Radeon RX 9070 or 9070 XT. They offer 16GB of VRAM and can be better value than the 5070, although Nvidia may still be preferable if you care about CUDA, ray tracing, or its upscaling and frame-generation features. For esports games, check recent reviews for driver and stuttering performance before choosing AMD.

At those prices, I’d choose the RTX 5070. The 4070 Ti Super is faster and has more VRAM, but the performance difference is generally around 10% at 1440p, so paying almost £200 extra doesn’t seem worthwhile unless you’re targeting 4K, ultrawide 1440p, or heavily using ray tracing. Twelve gigabytes should be fine for 1440p gaming for now.
