Is this 1440p gaming PC a good long-term buy?

I'm preparing to buy my first desktop and want it to remain capable for roughly six years. I mainly play at 1440p, including some AAA games without needing ultra settings, along with plenty of indie titles. This is a configurable prebuilt with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB, ASUS TUF Gaming B850M-Plus WiFi motherboard, 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory, a Crucial E100 1 TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, a 360 mm ASUS ROG Strix liquid cooler, Corsair 4000D Airflow case, and an 850 W 80+ Gold ATX 3.0 modular power supply. The listed price is $2,581.41 or €2,264.16. Is this a worthwhile configuration and price for the expected longevity?

Overall, it’s a very capable build and should handle 1440p easily. I’d compare the prebuilt’s price against the cost of buying the same parts separately, since the exact value depends heavily on local pricing. Also consider swapping the liquid cooler for a quality Arctic 360 mm model if that option is available; otherwise, the configuration is well balanced apart from the entry-level SSD.

The main part I’d question is the E100 SSD. Its QLC flash is less durable and can slow down more than a good TLC-based drive, so I’d prefer a higher-quality model for the operating-system drive. If the prebuilt only offers that SSD or a modestly more expensive upgrade, you could use the included drive initially and replace or add another SSD later when prices improve.

The available upgrade is only about €20 more, so it may be worth checking exactly which model that option uses. Otherwise, installing a better drive yourself later is a fairly straightforward upgrade.

The performance level is more than sufficient for 1440p gaming and should remain strong for many years, especially since you’re not insisting on ultra settings. The processor is arguably more than you need right now, but it gives you plenty of headroom for future games.

You shouldn’t need to replace the whole system to keep it relevant. If gaming performance starts to fall behind in three or four years, upgrading only the graphics card could extend its useful life considerably. The 850 W power supply also gives you some flexibility for a future GPU upgrade.
