I'm considering upgrading from an RTX 3060 Ti, which I currently use with a 4K 240Hz monitor. A seller has offered me a brand-new Zotac RTX 5080 in exchange for my 3060 Ti plus £800. Since I could probably resell my current card for around £150, the effective cost would be about £950. New RTX 5080 cards are currently selling for roughly £1,300, and GPU prices may continue rising while the next generation and refreshed 50-series models still seem some way off. Is this a worthwhile upgrade, and what would you consider a fair price for an RTX 5080?

It’s not a terrible price, but compare alternatives before committing. The 5080 isn’t dramatically faster than some cheaper competing cards, so its value depends heavily on whether you specifically want its feature set and performance. At an effective £950, though, it’s considerably better than paying the current £1,300 market price.
The offer seems unusually favorable to you. Your 3060 Ti still has resale value, but it won’t come close to the performance of a 5080 at 4K. Verify the serial number, receipt, warranty, and that the card works under load so you don’t end up buying a scam or faulty hardware.
I’d be tempted to take it, since the upgrade is huge and graphics card prices don’t look likely to fall soon. Just make sure you inspect the card and confirm it runs properly before handing over your GPU or money.
