My RTX 3080 Ti is starting to struggle in some games at 4K, and occasionally even at 1440p. The cheapest RTX 5080 I can find is around $1,300. Would that be a worthwhile upgrade, or should I keep the 3080 Ti, adjust settings, or consider a less expensive card such as the RTX 5070 Ti or Radeon RX 9070 XT?

Before upgrading, consider how often the 3080 Ti is actually failing to meet your target settings. A 5080 will still require some compromises in demanding 4K titles, so the upgrade mainly buys higher frame rates, better upscaling options, and more room for ray tracing. If you do upgrade, keep the 3080 Ti as a backup rather than getting rid of it immediately.
At 4K, the RTX 5080 is a substantial upgrade and makes more sense, especially if you care about ray tracing, path tracing, DLSS, and Nvidia's other features. At 1440p, though, it may be overkill unless you're targeting very high refresh rates. The RX 9070 XT is usually much better value, while the RTX 5070 Ti sits somewhere in between.
If you aren't in a hurry, waiting could be sensible. New generations and changing supply can push current-card prices down. Unless your current performance is genuinely frustrating, keeping the 3080 Ti and waiting for better pricing may give you more value than paying $1,300 now.
$1,300 is a lot, so this mostly comes down to your budget and monitor. If buying it won't interfere with bills, savings, or other priorities, go for it. Otherwise, keep the 3080 Ti for another generation, use DLSS and optimized settings, or sell the old card to offset the cost. DLSS Performance at 4K can look surprisingly good in many games.
For value, I'd look closely at the RX 9070 XT. It costs considerably less and offers performance close enough to the RTX 5080 for many rasterized games. The trade-off is weaker ray tracing and fewer Nvidia-specific features. The RTX 5070 Ti is another option, but the 9070 XT is generally the better price-to-performance choice.
I would take the 9070 XT over the 5070 Ti in most cases, especially if ray tracing and path tracing aren't priorities.
The 5080 can still make sense if path tracing is important to you. That was a major reason I chose Nvidia over the cheaper alternatives.
